Temu Customs Charge Calculator Ireland
Enter the number of different item types in your order, your basket total, and how your parcel will be delivered. The calculator works out your customs duty, any admin fees, and your total extra charges on top of the basket price.
How many different types of items are in your order?
3 T-shirts = 1 type. A T-shirt, phone case and earphones = 3 types. Each type = €3 customs duty.

Each different product type = €3 customs duty.
What is your total basket value?
The €3 flat rate only applies to orders under €150. Over €150, standard customs duty rates apply instead.
Used to check if your order is under or over the €150 threshold.
How will customs be collected?
Some retailers collect customs duty at checkout. If not, An Post or your courier holds the parcel and charges an admin fee before releasing it.
When is your item expected to arrive?
Charges apply when your parcel clears customs on arrival, not when you order. Arriving after November 2026 means the extra €2 EU handling fee applies.

What Are the New Temu Customs Charges in Ireland?
The EU scrapped its “de minimis” exemption on 1st July 2026 — a rule that previously allowed parcels worth under €150 from outside the EU to enter Ireland completely duty-free. In its place, a €3 customs duty now applies per distinct item category on parcels valued at €150 or less shipped from outside the EU.
That covers parcels from China, the United States, and Great Britain — so Temu, Shein, AliExpress, and Amazon UK are all affected.
Temu Customs Charges Ireland — How Much Will It Cost?
The €3 charge applies per item category, not per parcel or per unit. The EU’s own example makes it clear: a parcel with one silk shirt and two wool shirts attracts €6 in duty, not €3, because silk and wool fall under different tariff classifications.
A typical Temu basket with a T-shirt, a phone case, earphones, and a kitchen gadget — four different categories — means €12 in customs duty on an order that might only cost €20. Add An Post’s €6.95 admin fee if they collect it on delivery, and a separate EU handling fee of €2 from November 2026, and the charges add up fast.
Do You Have to Pay Customs on Items from Temu?
Yes, from 1st July 2026 you do. Previously, most Temu orders came in under the €150 threshold with no duty at all. That threshold still exists, but now it triggers the €3 per item category charge rather than exempting you from it.
How you pay depends on the retailer. Some platforms collect the charge at checkout, so there are no surprises on delivery. Others leave it to be collected by An Post or your courier, who hold the parcel until you pay.
Does Temu Go Through Customs?
All parcels entering Ireland from outside the EU go through customs — that has always been the case. What changed on 1st July 2026 is that low-value parcels, which previously passed through without triggering any charge, now attract the €3 per item duty.
Revenue has advised checking where goods are actually shipped from, not just where the website is based. A .ie domain or euro pricing doesn’t mean the goods are in Ireland or the EU. If they dispatch from China or the UK, the charge applies.
Shein Customs Charges Ireland — Is Shein Affected?
Yes. Shein customs charges in Ireland work exactly the same way as Temu. Both platforms built their business models around shipping individual orders directly from Chinese factories to consumers, completely duty-free. Both Shein and Temu have already started moving stock into EU-based warehouses to reduce the impact — if goods are already in the EU when you order, no customs duty applies. Always check the dispatch origin before you buy.
What About Amazon UK Orders?
Amazon UK is caught by the same rules. Amazon has confirmed that Irish customers may see a €3 charge on certain orders from Amazon.co.uk and even Amazon.ie, depending on where the item ships from. If you’re ordering from Amazon.co.uk, assume the charge applies unless the listing specifically states it ships from within the EU.
What Happens If I Don’t Pay the Customs Charge?
The parcel won’t be released. An Post or your courier will notify you that a charge is outstanding — if you don’t pay, the parcel is held and can eventually be returned to the sender or destroyed. There’s no financial penalty, but you won’t receive your order.
Can I Get a Refund If I Return an Item?
Generally no. Customs duty is not refundable if you return something because you changed your mind — Revenue will only refund it if the goods are faulty. This matters for the way many people shop on Temu and Shein, where ordering multiple sizes or styles to return what doesn’t fit is common. That approach is now considerably more expensive.
A Good Time to Shop Irish
One straightforward way to avoid all of this: buy from Irish-based sellers. Any retailer shipping from within Ireland or the EU isn’t affected by these charges. What you see at checkout is what you pay — no customs bill waiting at the door, no An Post admin fee, no grey area about which warehouse your order is coming from. If you used the Temu customs charge calculator Ireland above and the total surprised you, it might be worth considering Irish-based sellers instead.
